BY ANTONIO SWANCY

The Yeezus concert featuring Kendrick Lamar and of course Kanye West himself,

Both Kanye and Kendrick had to overcome sound issues at the SAP Center. Kendrick only had  a 45 minute set. During that set, the sound quality was pretty bad for nearly half of it. To top things off, his mic went out during “m.A.A.d city”. He did well to play it off and even did his last verse acapella. Interestingly enough he did an elongated version of his verse on “Fuccin Problems” however, he did not spit his verse from “Control”. The highlight of his performance was “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”. His stage was plain and his overall performance left a bit to be desired. It was not his fault for sound quality but at best I would give him a 7/10. The performance was brief and did not utilize hits like “The Recipe” and “Control”. Instead choosing songs like “Sherane” which isn’t exactly concert music.

Kanye had a 2 hr set so he had more leeway. Let’s start by talking about his stage. It was impressive. He has a giant mountain that opens up and lights up. There were fireworks. He had interpretive dancers. A weird creature that followed for 3 songs. Even Jesus showed up. It might not have even been an impersonator.

Where the set failed was sound quality issues… When Jesus spoke, his mic wasn’t working. Kanye did a elongated version of “Runaway” and needless to say SAP center did not have it sync well. However, after that it sounded fine for “Coldest Winter” and “Heartless”.

He provided a story of his inspiration for “Coldest Winter”, which was the passing of his mother. He incorporated several albums with songs like “Power”, “Jesus Walks”, “Hey Mama”, “Stronger” and many more.

He has no shortage of hits and utilized much of them. He has a large propensity for masks as he used at least three of them.

His stage presence is unmatched. The only thing about the stage that was bad was how the screen was shaped.

There were words and descriptions that showed on the screen but you could not see it unless you were in the middle, however, the effect of the concert was powerful

The crowd was ok minus one hater in the 200s section. He kept talking about how bad he thought the concert was but yet stayed for the entire 2 hour set. So, yes Kanye is that good. Jesus showed up and even a person who said he hated it, stayed the entire time.

My only regret was not getting closer seats. My only wish was SAP center got their shit together with their sound system.
